About Me

I make pottery decorated with plants and flowers that are connected to important memories and places in my life. I work out of my garage studio in Austin, TX. Right now I am most interested in exploring repeating patterns and using actual textures to create one-of-a-kind decorative pieces. I find inspiration in lots of historical pots, plant motifs, patterns, the work of many contemporary potters, and the nature around me. A few things I am looking at a lot recently are cornflowers, shrimp plants, 18th century Sevres porcelain, Messian snowball vases, Classical and Late Classical Greek pottery forms, lace tatting, Bernard Palissyโ€™s grotto plans, and the collection of pots from my grandmothers house.

Most of my work starts on the wheel, where I throw and then sometimes alter the base pot. I am currently exploring coil building as a way to make new, larger shapes! Then I form and attach each 3D plant piece. My decoration usually starts out as drawings of plants that I then make into sculptural clay versions repeated over and over again on the surface of the pot. All my work is fired to cone 6 in an electric kiln.
